Sustainable Land Use
Small and medium-sized community and business enterprises, domestic sector
Sustainable Land Use This area of consultancy examines how land can be best used as a strategic post-crash asset Forestry and Biomass Production These are some of the principal areas of sustainable land use. By forestry we mean sustainablly managed deciduous or mixed deciduous/coniferous plantations or woodlands and medium-term coppicing systems. Biomass - intended primarily for heating - is only one of a number of possible outputs. Fruit and Nut Crops These are part of the sustainable land use portfolio. Nut crops represent one of the most promising prospects for future food production in Ireland, and have good commericial potential. Our knowledge in this area is unrivalled in Ireland. Small Scale Renewable Energy This area of consultancy is also part of the sustainable land use portfolio, and covers biomass, anaerobic digestion from waste and/or farm crops, and micro-generation of electricity Energy and Carbon Auditing This area of consultancy examines the energy use in buildings (particularly at household level) and ways to reduce it (beginning with easy-to-do, low-cost options) Community Reslience Options, Debt Mitigation, and Strategic Investment in Local Projects This very important area of consultancy focusses primarily on post-crash strategic options at household and local community level. What can communities and householders do to build resilience to a very uncertain and unpredictable future? Where can they safely put their money, or what should they spend it on? What type of projects should be supported, and which are high risk or of no long-term benefit?
