Global Warming
Global Warming is a reality: the only remaining questions are how much can humanity do to minimise the damage, and how much time is left for decisive and concerted global action. We are witnessing the fastest and most dramatic change in climate for over one million years, and as a crisis it is unparalleled in the history of our species.

Genetically Modifed Crops
Genetically modifed crops and other organisms represent an unquantifiable and unknowable risk to ecosystems, food security, biodiversity and human health. The argument in favour comes from vested interests - some of the most powerful corporations on the planet backed by hundreds of billions of dollars of muscle - with everything to gain from the proliferation of GMOs. However, they can be stopped.

Corrib Gas Project
Ireland unwisely gave away its off-shore gas resources to a group of multinationals now headed by Shell. Now these same multinationals plan to build a refinery bang in the middle of a bog in North Mayo.... all with the blessing of the Irish State. For more on this ludicrous project, and the locally inspired opposition to it, check out the link below:

Motorway Madness
Motorways are NOT a solution to transport problems, they simply encourage more people to use cars and pass on congestion further on down the line. In particular, the current plans to build two parallel motorways north of Dublin epitomises everything that is unsustainable about Ireland's transport strategy. That one of these motoways - the M3 - will pass through the middle of a complex of unique archeological sites in the Skryne Valley speaks volumes about national priorities.
It is worth examining who is really benefitting from this development. Who, for example was given advance warning about the proposed route of the motorway, so that they could buy up farming land at strategic locations and then sell at enormous profit? Could it be that some of these developers have links to the party - Fianna Fáil - which has pushed this project right from the beginning? Sadly, this is the way business is done in Ireland.
And what of the Greens? John Gormley, leader of the Greens, is now Minister for the Environment. It has been within his power to halt this project, and to re-configure the two proposed motorways in one. In the past, the Greens have always been vocal on the need to develop efficient, attractive and reliable public transport services, and to discourage the use of the car. Now they are strangely silent.

Dolphins
Dolphins are among the most intelligent of all sea animals. Unfortunately, they have not yet learned to fear our species. As a result, they are captured and killed in the most barbaric ways imaginable, notably in Japan. For further details click on the link below:
